GROUP LESSONS

Group lessons are taught in a class format. These classes often have students of varying skill levels. Often students are too shy to ask a question or can't come up with a question during lessons. In a group lesson, these kinds of questions are often asked by another student, thus the student is able to benefit from the answer, even if he or she is too shy to ask or didn’t think of that question in the first place. Also, when a student is around other players on a regular basis, it is easier for them to be aware of their own progress. This makes the learning process more enjoyable, which motivates more practice, and the more you practice, the better your skills!

The benefits of this program include:

    •    Learning directly from the experiences of other students
    •    Ability to directly measure progress in comparison to peers
    •    LESS costly than private lessons!
    •    MORE relaxed, MORE interactive, AND MORE fun atmosphere than private lessons!
    •    MORE low-pressure performance opportunities than private lessons

Two group options to choose from:

*Open Group Lessons: The Keyboard Gym

Open group lessons are taught in a similar format to classes taught at a fitness gym. Classes are scheduled at various times, and on various days of the week, and you can choose whichever day and time best suits your needs. These classes often have students of varying skill levels.

*Piano/Keyboard Basic Training classes

THE WORKS

The Works is a four-week rotation program where each week is a different focus. The first week consists of content that is delivered in a “nonstandard” format. Usually this is delivered via e-mail in the form of a written document, but sometimes there will be an audio or video component as well. This content covers a wide variety of topics, ranging from technique topics to music theory topics such as chord construction or progression, as well as musicality/creativity projects topics such as  improvisation. This content is in your permanent possession and can be referred to at will, whenever you need to review the material (unlike content delivered verbally in a private or group setting). The second week in the rotation is a group application class. This class has all the benefits of other group instruction formats, and is focused on answering questions that come up after reviewing the content delivered in the first week, as well as learning to apply that content in a practical way. The third week is a series of over-lapping, semi-private lessons. You meet with the teacher for one half hour, and these times overlap, so that students still benefit from sharing knowledge in real time. Students get to ask more questions, and fine-tune the application of the content from the first week. This is a unique format that must be experienced to be truly appreciated. The fourth week in the rotation is a group integration class. This class is focused on learning how to integrate the content from the first week so that in can be used in any playing situation, and adapted to any musical context.

The benefits of this program include:

    •    Better absorption of knowledge (week one content)
    •    Learning from peers (week two and four groups)
    •    Ability to measure progress in comparison to peers (week two and four groups)
    •    Direct access to the teacher to get questions answered (week three overlap sessions)
    •    Minimal distractions (week three overlap sessions)
    •    Some flexibility of schedule (week one content is not a fixed meeting time)
    •    LESS costly than private lessons!
    •    MORE relaxed, MORE interactive, AND MORE fun atmosphere than private lessons!
